Discipline: Love and Logic
I do not believe in punishing children. Rather I use those “discipline moments” as opportunities to educate children about other’s feelings, belongings, and choices he/she has made. If a child does not make choices in which he/she are being respectful to others or equipment under my care, it is my policy to remove him/her from the situation for a short “recovery time”. The recovery time is designed to do 3 things: 1) for your child to have a few moments to him/her self to cool off 2) to think about what he/she did that caused him/her to be removed from the situation and 3) gives him/her time to think about what would have been a better choice in solving the situation or how to appropriately handle equipment. Each incident resulting in a recovery time will be discussed with the child. In particular situations it may be necessary to take away privileges. If serious behavior problems continue to occur, parents may be asked to remove the child from my day care. No form of physical punishment will ever be used.
